May goals and organizational discussionatude

May:  Clean and organize my house FOR REAL

This includes but is not limited to:

  • closets & drawers — cull clothes
  • kitchen table
  • articles in my files and everywhere else
  • boxes o’ crap
  • organize books
  • mop floors
  • untangle the vacuum cleaner brush (OMG grossest job evar)
  • call to get blinds fixed
  • borrow or rent steam cleaner for carpet
  • trip to Goodwill to get rid of stuff

I will cross off tasks as they are done, but probably on the Monthly Challenges page instead of here… watch me go!

#2 will

  • Cull her filing cabinets of old stuff
  • See about getting a second filing cabinet (will it cost her?)
  • Go through her class crap from Spring semester, culling and organizing as necessary
  • General cleaning and organization

She will do this by spending an hour a day for the days that she is in her work office instead of her home office.

Update:  #2 will contemplate doing something similar in a month or two.  #2′s goal for May is to get tenure.  There will be no updates, only pain.

Do you have any exciting plans for May?

Similar to #2, my focus will be on simply surviving this month with basic health intact. It’s end of fiscal year at work and everyone is rushing to push through projects to meet their goals. June won’t be much better, since start of fiscal year means people pushing to get new projects kicked off. I’m already tired today from starting with a 7:30 meeting and not getting a break until now. Oh, and working two hours last night and therefore staying up later and getting less sleep. And doing the same thing Sunday night. And having to do the same thing tonight and start with 7 AM meeting tomorrow. At least it will be hump day and that much closer to sleep-in Sunday.

Excuse me now while I go mainline some caffeine so I can finish the afternoon.

I wish I could limit all the house projects I have to May. Instead I must spread them over the course of the year. Good luck with your lists!

My goal this month is to make summer vacation plans, otherwise we’ll end up not going (this happens most summers).

Ugh… summer vacation plans. Not looking forward to it! (As always, we have to visit family… and there’s two conferences in cities that are close to each other and far away from home with a few days in between so it makes sense to stay out there rather than fly home and back, so forced mini-vacation.)

I just want to get through one month without Monkey going on antibiotics…not sure this is a realistic goal.

Yeah, it’s hard. DC went through about 6 months of always being sick once ze started daycare. But ze has been remarkably healthy since that initial sickness.

I hope to book a vacation this month. I need some R+R badly.

My perennial beds could use some love too.

  6. Little House Says:

I’m with #2 this month – my goal is to focus on finishing this semester, taking a brief trip, then getting serious about my summer teaching job!

  7. Sandy H Says:

Good luck to both of you!!

Especially #2, lots of pain is no good. Though I am sure it will definitely be worth it in the end!!
