TV Shows

Here’s what we’ve been watching lately (effete as we are):

Season 5 of Psych.  So far, much better than Season 4 (which kind of sucked compared to the upward awesomeness of seasons 1-3, all of which I own and have watched at least 2x, including 1x with commentary).  Hilariously funny crime drama about a fake psychic detective and his partner, Gus.

Season 1 of Perry Mason.  A crime drama we can watch with a child in the room!

When I do mindless data tasks, I usually like to listen to The Daily Show or The Colbert Report, but sadly they updated their flash thingy and work has not updated the necessary flash thingy and our IT person is a … person who will not let professors have administrative privileges on their laptops… so instead I’ve been listening to badly dubbed anime on Netflix Streaming.  Currently season 2 of Claanad.  Yes, one of my vices is harem anime.

Season 1 of Fringe.  Silly, silly science here but ok drama and some occasional humor.

HGTV:  all of it, basically.  I love that channel.

I would like to watch more Big Bang Theory, but I need this season to finish so I can watch it on DVD… I got behind on the internet episodes this season and like to watch it in order.

What have you been watching?  What are your favorite shows?

Big Bang Theory all the way. We have BBT ( Big Bang Thursdays) every week at our place.
I’ll make time for the new How I Met Your Mother this fall.

When they are on, I watch: Chopped, Hoarders, Man vs. Food, and any of the food/design competition shows.

  2. Comradde PhysioProffe Says:

All I watch are sports, Top Chef, and Guy Fieri’s Big Bites and Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. During this hurricane/tropical storm, we’ve been watching NY1, a local NYC news channel.

  3. Cloud Says:

I don’t watch much TV. Some Colbert an Daily Shows, but not consistently. I like the PBS Mysteries, but we get way behind on them because I don’t often feel like staying up for an hour and a half after the kids are in bed. I like Doctor Who, but decided to let them go for now, for the same reason.

My husband watches more TV. He found Rhett and Link: Commercial Kings and that is a lot of fun.

HGTV was my go to station when I was home with baby #1- I’d watch it while I nursed her. No pesky plot lines for a sleep deprived brain to try to follow.

  4. Alyssa Says:

We’ve recently started watching Criminal Minds – an interesting turn of the crime drama.

We also just watched the Master Chef season, and we like the Food Network in general (Top Chef, Chopped, Cupcake Wars, etc.). During the regular TV year, we watch Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, and Grey’s.

  5. Linda Says:

I’ve been working my way through Season’s 1-4 of Mad Men on Netflix streaming. I watch occasional clips from Colbert Report on Hulu or their website. Other than that, if I have the TV on it’s usually tuned to one of the PBS channels. I don’t have pay TV because I’m a) too cheap to buy it and b) not wanting to get sucked into watching any more TV than I already do. Even though I usually multi-task while I watch (knitting or reading/writing something) I think an hour or two a night is more than enough for me.

  6. Trish Says:

I really love British tv series – they tend to be short lived but wonderful. Some of my favorites are Absolutely Fabulous, Coupling, Clatterford, and Gavin and Stacey. I used to watch some HGTV but got tired of the bloated American tastes (I have to have stainless steel appliances. Ooh, this bathroom’s small! This countertop must be over 10 yrs old! The whole place will have to be gutted.) My favorite current TV series is Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations.

  7. Debbie M Says:

Not much lately. “True Blood” (totally not kid-friendly, yikes). And “Top Gear” is watched regularly in the house, though I don’t always make it through the whole show. I like the first minute best. “Tonight! Richard jumps over a drainage ditch. James asks for a favor. And Jeremy gets stuck in a tree.” (No, I’m not really a car person.)

We also just finished up the “Jesse Stone” shows. We’re sad about no more “Lie to Me.” Trying out “Eureka”–not quite hooked yet.

I also love HGTV but don’t have cable. I told my mom (who does have cable) that the perfect present for me is to just record anything from there and give me the disk. She did this once and it actually inspired my boyfriend to make the most awesome bookshelves ever. But she feels guilty giving me something so cheap. :-(

Oh, PS, we watched the three episodes of the latest BBC “Sherlock Holmes.” Not quite as good as “Firefly,” the best TV show of all time, but pretty high up there. And I heard they are making more episodes, so you could say that we are currently watching this show.

      • nicoleandmaggie Says:

DH just watched those Sherlock Holmes episodes too, and he will be glad to hear that there are more in the works. And yes, he believes that Firefly is the best tv show of all time.

    • nicoleandmaggie Says:

DH is also sad about no more Lie to Me. :(

  8. Leigh Says:

I’ve been watching The Big Bang Theory from the beginning. It’s on Netflix DVDs, not Instant, so it’s quite slow. I’m making it through about one DVD (4-6 episodes) per week… I have one more DVD of Season 2, then 4 DVDs of Season 3, so it’ll take me about another 5 weeks to finish it.

I was planning on deactivating my Netflix subscription just before my September billing date (around the 25th), so hopefully I’ll have gotten through all of Season 3 by then or I have enough time to finish watching and return the last DVD by the deadline.

I’m looking forward to fall TV starting in a few weeks! With the amount of time that I have to watch TV, limited cable is a pretty good deal (it costs me about $14/month).

  9. frugalscholar Says:

We’ve been watching Community w/ our son. Now we want to work at a community college.

  10. Sandy @ Journey To Our Home Says:

I’ve been watching Medium- through all the seasons. I found them on Netflix and stream them live in the background of most of my tasks.
We are changing internet and cable providers and getting rid of most of our cable channels. I usually only stream Netflix so cable to me is sort of pointless.

  11. Bryan at Pinch that Penny! Says:

Over the summer, we’ve been enjoying watching Suits and Necessary Roughness. During the regular tv season, we’re big fans of Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, and 30 Rock. On my own, I enjoy the laughs from Archer and Family Guy.

  12. hush Says:

I’m utterly obsessed with True Blood and Mad Men – when neither of them are on the air I get a little sad actually. On the Netflix we’re watching old Arrested Development and Breaking Bad episodes. Celebrity Ghost Stories on Biography is my guilty pleasure, and DH is a fan of The Best Thing I Ever Ate on Food Network.

  13. Dr. O Says:

OMG I love the old Perry Mason shows!!! I use to watch those in grad schools before going to bed – they were on at midnight back home when I stopped reading papers at night :)
