I haven’t read that book since 6th grade, but I remember it being sad enough to be n my saddest books ever category (along with Where the Red Fern Grows) of course…

#2 here: We had to read Where the Red Fern Grows in 4th grade and I hated hated hated it. (Spoiler): You give a graphic description of a dog getting torn apart by a wild animal and the fern growing at the end is supposed to make it all better? I don’t think so. Oh, horrible horrible.

I didn’t read Flowers for Algernon, but one of my friends in 6th grade did. I could tell it wasn’t the kind of book I would enjoy. (Just like Jacob I have loved… She really liked depressing books.)

My favorite book when I was little was Alive, by Piers Paul Read, about those airplane passengers who had to cannibalize each other to survive after their plane crashed in the Andes.

FYI… comments don’t seem to be working on today’s post. You are being deprived of my brilliant and incisive opinions! Um, or spared some more rambling comments.
