• I hate cut flowers.  If my partner got them for me I would be upset.  I don’t like that they’re so expensive, but more than that I hate the way they wither and die.  I don’t care for indoor plants at all… if plants are going to die (and they always do, except #2’s spider plant which managed to flourish and  have babies despite having me in the room too), I’d rather they do it outside where I can’t see them.  My partner knows better than to get me flowers or jewelry.  I’d rather have a thoughtful gift than one that other people will be jealous of.  Also the no dying thing.
  • #2 has a green thumb and a bunch of plants.  I also like cut flowers and the flowering bushes in our yard.  Flowers are gorgeous.  Keeping houseplants alive isn’t hard [for #2], and they make a room seem less sterile and more homey.  Also, I don’t mind jewelry from my partner either, though some of the very best gifts he’s given me aren’t either one.
  • Our finished posts queue is a bit behind, especially given that school will be starting.  We have 84 unfinished drafts.  Obviously we need more RBOC, right?
  • All I want is a salary of $290K/year and not killing myself with work… is that so much to ask?
  • Season 4 of Psych was very uneven.  So far Season 5 has been awesome.
  • I like making out in the morning.
  • I don’t like Anne McCaffrey because she seems to think that date rape is not only ok, but it is a good thing to do.  Romance novels don’t even do that anymore.  Apparently Game of Thrones also does this.  What kind of messages are we sending our nerds?
  • We rarely clean our house, but when we do, I’m reminded that was have a really nice house.  (Except the kitchen.)
  • Entropy is slightly greater around Little Kitty.  But she’s so cute.
  • Started Metformin… so far, have not thrown up.  Looking forward to being a size 6 in the near future as Metformin both directly and indirectly causes weightloss in people with insulin problems through fixing the insulin problem and through forcing the person to lay off sweets and fatty food (or face the consequences).  In the first week I have lost 3 lb.
  • Finally bought shoes!  Now I’m back to 4 working pairs of shoes.  Whew.  Just in time for school.  And at least I got 2 pairs for my $310– my sister tells me when she was shopping with her friend, her friend spent $500 on one pair!

Good set of RBOC. This long weekend has given me time to do some real cleaning in my house, too. I’m not getting as far as I’d hoped, but at least the bedroom and bathroom have been thoroughly cleaned. Even dusted. I so hate dusting that it was beyond little bits being stirred up; there were sheets of dust to get rid of. Ick.

I haven’t read any Game of Thrones, so I’m not sure what you mean about date rape, and it’s been a long time since I’ve read any Anne McCaffrey. I think the first book had something in it like that, didn’t it? I’m trying to remember where she had date rape in her books.

Which shoes did you buy? I’m always looking for comfortable, supportive, good looking shoes. I think you usually buy things that meet those criteria.

Third book, the main character rapes his girlfriend. But it’s ok because he helps her clean up afterward.

#2 is not impressed with the shoe purchases– she’s the one who buys good-looking shoes. I got a pair of Naot Kayla sandals that are not as comfortable as I was assured they would be despite my misgivings (also #2 says they’re hippie sandals, but they don’t really look like Berkenstocks when they’re on) and a pair of Naot Karetu that are fine.

$310 on 2 pairs of shoes leaves me feeling marginally better on what I just spent on my horse, so thanks for that.

Thought technically the *horse* needs new shoes every ~6 weeks at a cost of $135 per shoeing — well, that cost, at least, will diminish somewhat during his recuperation (aka confinement but not in the Victorian sense) as I can semi-ignore his feet when all he’s allowed to do is stand around or stroll around. But it does help put what (some) humans spend on footware in a new perspective :) !

I only own 4 pairs of shoes at any point in time and keep them for several years until they truly wear out, so I think the per-day cost of my shoe purchases isn’t particularly high (especially compared to most people).

I’ve got you way beat (I own maybe 10 pairs of shoes but musing through them, only 1 I bought new — others are Goodwill or hand-me-downs. Oh, and 2 pairs of boots I bought new 2 years ago but $100 for both pairs combined), but not if you factor in the horse’s footwear.

Which Anne McCaffery series? The dragonrider one? I haven’t read them in years, and doubt I would have picked up on that when I last read them. I used to love them, though. Hmmm.

On shoes… I have too many. And I spend roughly what you do on them. But they last for years!

  4. GMP Says:

I’m pathetic in the shoe department. I have one pair of black leather shoes, one pair of boots, and one pair of sandals/slippers, and I wear each until they fall apart and only then buy new ones. I hear that’s how guys are towards shoes. But I so hate shopping…

    Really? In the morning? Hmmm…..
I love cut flowers but hate to spend money on them and hate watching them die. This all leads to feelings of waste….I remind myself they are just flowers and they make me happy for a few moments. I do have a green thumb but I don’t like indoor plants. They get dusty and difficult to water and that leads to how often I don’t clean my house even though I love a spic-n-span clean house.

I love fresh-cut flowers! The building where PhysioWife and I live has a massive beautiful bouquet delivered to the lobby every week, and itte’s f*cken awesome!

  7. MutantSupermodel Says:

I love cut flowers too. It’s their job. =P

If I’m making out in the morning it never ends there. But morning stuff is the best.

WOW look at you and the shoes. I felt bad spending $40 on a pair of work flats… :/ I just had a bunch of shoes donated to me which was awesome. I actually make my shoes last forever and ever, but I don’t think I’ve ever spent more than $100 on one pair. Actually, I think the most I’ve spent is in the $80 range. I do love shoes though. If I could, I’d happily spend more!

  8. Rumpus Says:

I’m all for nice shoes. The absolute most comfortable shoes I’ve owned was the most expensive pair.

Yes, McCaffery’s books have non-consensual relationships. It seems like most people quickly forget them. I believe Game of Thrones is more screwed up than that, but I don’t remember details (apparently quickly forgotten).
