I can see why people lose a lot of weight on this diet.  I was totally with them until they said no milk products… also the no legumes is weird.

We were in this week’s carnival of personal finance.

That wedding cake video is hilarious! Although the situation is stupid. I’m very glad I never went through this. My wedding was small and my aunts baked my cake as my gift. It was scrumptious.

Checked out the diet link. I don’t understand the no legumes thing either. I’ve looked into the paleo diet and they don’t allow legumes either. The “logic” (if you can call it that) is that our long ago ancestors were hunter-gatherers and ate green things, fruit, and meat, and that they didn’t eat legumes, grains, or non-fruit sugars. Well, I suppose if we went back far enough that *may* be true, but the proponents of these diets are ignoring many thousands of years of human existence to fit their diet programs. I agree with quite a bit of what paleo promotes — not eating CAFO and industrial raised animal protein, eating whole and not processed foods, and eating organic whenever possible — but no potato, no grain, and no legumes doesn’t resonate with me.

One of my friends started following the Eat to Live diet which is basically completely vegan and includes some plant-based fats and sugars. She started it to avoid taking more medications as well as lose weight; she has PCOS and is already on metformin, and her blood pressure and total cholesterol were at the point where her doc wanted to start medicating her. So with the doc’s blessing she started the diet and met with a nutritionist (or a dietician, maybe…I get them mixed up). She’s lost over 20 pounds in six weeks without adding exercise. And she says she’s never hungry. I believe her on that; I’ve shared a few meals with her following this plan and eating a pound of veggies will fill one up for many hours!

See, I find that eating just vegetables (no matter how many I stuff in!) leaves me hungry sooner than if I eat pasta with them. What’s that about?

The one of us WITH insulin problems suggests that perhaps you do not have an insulin problem!

Though when we first started a CSA we did find that a single roasted beat sure could fill someone up. Different veggies are more filling than others.

I think some of the wedding twilight zone thing is small business people protecting themselves from how nutty some people get about their weddings. Minor problems get blown up into major catastrophes, etc. I have a friend who is starting a baking business, and she has already had some interesting experiences with brides.

It does suck if you are not the type to get nutty about your wedding, though!
