My Republican state representative in Minnesota held one open town hall in town. He got so many Democrats/opposition (and he kept remarking “wow, I’ve never had so many people!”) that he hasn’t held an open one again since :-( It wasn’t a huge number of people, honestly, but maybe big for him. Fifty people or so? The hard part was that a lot of people were angry and couldn’t keep calm. I think a calm, focused town hall would have been less stressful for him, and I don’t think it’s productive to not have town halls (even tho it was likely good for him to see angry people).

FYI that MN Republican rep did ultimately meet with the HS dems after lots of bad press. There was a TV show interview about it. We shall see if there are any election consequences.
