Leah asks:
What is your favorite piece of furniture and why?
#1 and #2 at the same time ready 1, 2, 3: THE BED!
Here’s why:
Books to the ceiling,
Books to the sky,
My pile of books is a mile high.
How I love them! How I need them!
I'll have a long beard by the time I read them.

Our sectional couch! We both love it so much.

Oh I forgot to say why. It’s super big, so we can both sit by ourselves or together on it or lounge on it and it’s super comfy and awesome.

We also love our couch and I have napped on it often. It’s a good friend to me. But for long sleeps the bed is still better.
We have ‘family time’ on the couch with the cats (we don’t have kids) and we also eat on it, read on it, watch TV, surf the net, etc. It gets so much use that we had to have it restuffed, which was a great investment! It’s now around 10 years old.

My favorite piece of furniture is one I hardly use. :-) It’s a 7-foot-tall Chinese red lacquer chest of drawers with a pagoda top, made (we think) to hold jewelry and lingerie, but purchased by us to house my collection of beads and jewelry-making supplies. It’s such a total frolic.

frolic is good!

Tie between the bed and the glider. That glider keeps me sane sometimes! I wanted a more cuddly comfy one but this one is pretty often.

My first thought was refrigerator, because yay for saving food and not having to go shopping every day! But if that doesn’t count because it’s an appliance, then I’m going to have to say my big bookcase.
My boyfriend and I saw an episode on one of those HGTV shows (Trading Spaces, probably) where they made a small but interesting bookcase for somebody. After some brainstorming, he made us a pair of giant ones to fill the long windowless wall in our living room. The shelf areas are different sizes and shapes, so it has an interesting look. Plus it’s wood. And plus it’s full of books and knickknacks.
My second favorite is a coffee table that can also double as a bench. An ex-boyfriend had been saving some old butcher block and finally decided to make it into the top of a coffee table. So pretty! Then he moved across the country and decided it was too big to move. Crazy! So I asked for it and got it.
In general, I really love tables and chairs, too. And shelves and filing cabinets. And the older I get, the more I like beds and couches.
When I was first a grown-up, it took me a long time to start buying furniture. I had a sleeping bag and sat on the floor. I never did buy a couch–my roommates always had them.
