URGENT: Call about Kavanaugh today

They sent the sham FBI report in the night (they did not even interview Dr. Ford, much less anybody else who volunteered credible information) and filed to vote on Friday, confirmation to be held Saturday.

Call your senators, no matter who your senators are, red state, blue state, on the fence.  It doesn’t matter if they’ve already made their decision.  Everyone needs to hear that this is NOT OK.  We need ACA levels of pressure on everybody in order to flip the few people who are flippable and to keep vulnerable dems from flipping.

Celeste P. has been providing action items and scripts and up-to-date information since last night:  https://twitter.com/Celeste_pewter/

5calls also has scripts, but they are more limited.

Call.  Tell your friends to call.  This is really important.

And if you can’t call, you can send a fax for free using fax zero.

Please?

I called this morning and there was still space in at least one of the regional voicemailboxes for each of my senators.  (Though I suspect these had room because both required you to press # in order to end and send your message… I suspect that people who just hang up don’t get their messages actually sent.)

Is there anything that those of us who are not in the US (not citizens) do to help?
(other than retweeting / spreading word etc)

It all terrifies me because the one thing that the US excels in exporting globally is ideology. Which has often been a force for good, but this is so so not…

Donating to RAINN and similar non-political non-profits that help people who are going to be hurt by these outcomes… I’m pretty sure you don’t have to be a US citizen to do that.

Like you say, you can definitely get the word out to your US citizen friends!

I am really ashamed of my country right now. In blue states during K-12 we learn all these ideals about the US constitution about separation of powers and so on… which are just not being followed right now. (My kids are learning a very mangled version here in this red state. It is disconcerting.)

Thank you, will be calling this morning. This is… insanity. :( : (:(

I managed to get through and leave a message on DC office line for one of my senators (Kamala Harris), but I can’t get through to Senator Dianne Feinstein’s office at all. First attempt I got a recording that I could hold for 2 minutes and then would be disconnected. Every attempt since then just gets me a fast busy signal. I’m going to try a local office number.

I looked at Celeste P’s script and liked it, but I wrote my own to stress some slightly different objections. I’m pasting it below in case anyone wants another version to use.

    >>My name is xxxxx, I live in zip code xxxxx, and I’m calling to support [Senator’s] NO vote on Judge Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court.

I think there have been serious issues with the process for vetting him as a candidate and his integrity is questionable. His demeanor at the hearings can be described as unprofessional, at a minimum. I do not want a person who has demonstrated such a lack of self control, propensity to dodge direct questions about his past, and just plain wiliness to be appointed to the highest court in the United States.

I’m grateful for [Senator’s] work, and ask [Senator] and staffers to stand strong against the Kavanaugh nomination.<<

I should have checked here first but I already faxed both Sens. Harris and Feinstein again this morning urging them to fight this and I’ve shared on social media.

Did what I could as a blue state person! That fax service worked (got confirmations via email they went through).

I finally called today. Both my senators had people answering their phones and they graciously listened to all my blathering, but did not add anything.

I wrote my own script that I will share, not because I think anyone else will use it (Linda’s is better), but because I think y’all might enjoy knowing that someone had to hear this.

I’m a constituent from 78723. I’m calling about Kavanagh. I don’t care if he did a few horrible things when he was a teenager. I do care that he thinks the president should be immune from criminal investigations because he has a hard job. This is America where no one should be above the law. I also care that he perjured himself (those year book phrases were not about drinking games). [I should have said more directly that I care that he is *currently* a scumbag.] I know that [Senator Cruz can help] Trump [can] find a decent conservative, ideally someone so decent that even Democrats could approve, and someone who doesn’t tear the nation apart. This is not some backyard clubhouse membership being voted on; this is the United States Supreme Court, probably the most important lifetime position in the world.
Cruz – Senator Cruz seems to act like his job is resisting everything that Democrats want, no matter how reasonable, and rubber-stamping everything Trump wants, no matter how horrifying. That’s not his job. He needs to pull his head out and use that big brain of his to actually help run the country. [I keep reading that he’s quite intelligent, even though I see no evidence of it.]
Cornyn – Senator Cornyn seems to think it’s his job to do whatever Senator Cruz does. No, he needs to do the work and make his own decisions.
Both – He probably thinks that Republican gerrymandering and the wide broadcast of pro-Republican lies backed by his unethical rich supporters will keep him safe. That is not a good attitude for helping to govern our great country.
In sum, I am asking for two things: 1) Vote no on Kavanagh. 2) Only approve appointments and laws that he sincerely believes will be good for our country as a whole, and disapprove appointments and laws that are mainly good for unethical parties.
And for you, thank you for listening and passing on our messages, even though it will do no good. Is there anything else you need from me?

    I feel kind of sick.
