Which box is the oxygen mask in?

In January I declared that 2019 would by the year of putting on my own oxygen mask.  What have I done lately?  Well, I haven’t done the money stuff that I talked about in this post, because… MOVING!  Ugh!

Ok, let’s recap.  My February goal was to “Go on Patreon and sign up to support at least 2 creators whose work I appreciate.”  I did that!  It’s running automatically for the foreseeable future.

My March goal was: “Eat down the pantry and freezer.  Defrost those noms.”  I have sort of done that, but not on purpose.  See, our apartment complex needed to renovate our apartment.  They offered to let us move all our stuff out of our place for 2 weeks and then move back in, but that sounded like the worst thing ever.  Or, they were going to just not renew our lease when it ended this summer, which would mean we’d have to go searching all over the damn place for a new apartment.  OR, they said, if we could move right now, they’d let us have a new apartment in the same complex, same floor plan, just 2 doors down from us, already renovated, same rent.  That’s what we did!

It turns out to be a good deal.  But March is pretty much subsumed in moving.  We’re in the new place now and the cats are calming down.  We paid people to pack and move for us, but we’re still unpacking.  The new apartment is actually the mirror image of the floor plan in the old apartment, which is deeply discombobulating.  I keep banging into things; the bed is backwards, the shower is backwards; the kitchen is missing a shelf, where does our stuff go?  The sofa is backwards.

My new meds haven’t had bad side effects, but I’m not convinced they’re better than the old meds, either.  Gonna give it a little more time.

In April I should be able to get myself back on track with the appropriate goal of: “Clean up my damn room.  Put stuff away and keep it clean-ish.”  This will require unpacking those last 3 boxes in the middle of the floor.

How is project keep-yourself-sane going in 2019 for you, Grumpeteers?

Now that the sun is coming back, I’m doing better. I went to the doctor even, and I think I might have some pretty deep SAD. January and February were really rough. I usually love winter and try to get outside, but it’s hard with little kids who get cold easily and don’t keep mittens on.

My main project is to work out for an hour once a week (and I’ll build on that once I establish that habit). I’m also working on decluttering my house. It’s a tall order; I was raised with parents who saved everything. I’m having to really reconsider my relationship with stuff.

Also, I would find that reverse apartment seriously disorienting. In our building, there’s another apartment reverse of ours, and I always feel weird when I visit our neighbors.

      Yay exercise!

#2 notes that vit D deficiency has some of the same symptoms as SAD. (She thinks she has both although has only been diagnosed with the vit D thing.)

I have so far kept myself sane, but the official Unemployment starts Monday, so we’ll see how long that lasts. :-) I have gotten some meaningful work done in the garden, which helps with the whole “I’m in control!” illusion. Long list of house & garden projects to undertake once I am not spending 10 hrs/day going back and forth to this vestigial job. Each thing I check off the list will help with sanity.

Writing also continues apace. We are going out of town this weekend, or I’d be publishing a new novella. That, I expect, will happen April 6 instead.

It is easy to check vit D levels and easy to fix. Good wishes for easy!
Mirror imaging the floor plan is really hard as muscle memory is strong. You will adjust however, in time, like the cats. Good wishes!!!! Sound like you made a good choice. Hope the new window views are nice … clearly what I see looking out my windows is REALLY important to me, also the light that comes through bedroom windows (Yes, my alarm clock is one that mimics sun rise and that does help!)
    Be VERY good to yourself!

Packing and unpacking is absolutely the pits. I am still staring at a stack of moving boxes cluttering up the corner of my office that I haven’t been able to put to bed yet and it’s been over a year. Sigh.

I’m not going to focus on them though. My sanity is hovering in the balance based on a lot of work stuff going on and I’m working like a very busy ant preparing for winter on the long term work necessary to get ourselves in order. Focus focus focus.

I hope the new meds start to work better for you! I went off my meds some months ago and I think I have to go back on them but I’d hoped to avoid that if possible.

We have been doing a major freezer purge this month. It’s been good on the pocketbook, but it’s also been interesting seeing all the meals we were able to make from what we already had when so many times I feel like we have nothing to eat.

My main goal was to get pain free through physical therapy and more exercise. I Get a C- here. Haven’t lost any weight yet, which frankly is the major driver of my back and knee pain. I did however take the plunge order my group fitness instructor certification (test is in 2 hours). This will allow me to teach other classes besides spin. I have realized the best way for me to get back in the groove is to get paid to do stuff and hopefully that will kick more actions in gear and inspire me to work more on the portion control. I just hate being an overweight instructor but in theory, I am moving in the right direction.

We are sadly at an age where we can no longer ignore and abuse our bodies and get away with it. There are immediate consequences now.
