Whoops—no post today

I thought I had one scheduled and couldn’t think what it was and when I checked laaaate Sunday night I realized I didn’t.  Oops!

I’m booked with end of the semester stuff so an actual substantive post isn’t going to happen.

What are you up to this week?

  1. Michael N Nitabach Says:

This week I’m completing full draft of NIGMS R35 grant application to fund half my lab for five years.

  2. Anonymath Says:

Grading finals and entering final grades for the spring semester plus consulting with a cohort of doc students from another university who are just entering the data analysis portion of their projects and don’t know how to use the software.

  3. Dame Eleanor Hull Says:

I’m starting by filing change-of-grade forms for most of my students because I forgot to add in attendance/participation points from the first half of the semester (kept on paper, not on electronic system like rest of grades). I let everyone turn in written work late, very late, if they could just get it done, and then in the whirlwind of grading I forgot about in-person attendance. It seems like so long since I’ve seen them; there’s been nothing to remind me about attendance.

  4. delagar Says:

I’ve nearly finished grading — I have two students who asked if they could turn work in late. Waiting on them.

Once I get them done — since next semester is my sabbatical — I’ll be DONE with teaching until January 2021.

I’ll admit this is not how I expected to spend my sabbatical (self-isolating), but c’est la vie.

    • nicoleandmaggie Says:

Yay sabbatical! And given the uncertainty about in-person vs. online right now, maybe not such a bad thing. (I have a meeting on Thursday to discuss our department’s preferences for modality. Which… I mean… I’d like to see what the departments housing epidemiologists decide first!)

  5. Foscavista Says:

I am teaching 2-3 online courses this summer and working as a grader for ETS, for we don’t know what our university budget will look like. I am filling the coffers (savings, 403(b), 457) to ride out this storm.

    • nicoleandmaggie Says:

That sounds like a very busy summer.

      Filling the coffers is good!

I have a 5 hour “retreat” today to discuss how to determine the faculty raises that we will not be getting for the foreseeable future.

  6. Miser Mom Says:

Done with grading (and super super thankful to gradescope for making online grading easier than paper grading). A gazillion cheers for being done! I’m alternating between banging out overdue emails that I swept under the rug during the semester, starting a painting project, and taking my husband to medical visits (to piece back together his broken arm). I feel like a butterfly, flitting from one thing to another. Could be worse.

    • nicoleandmaggie Says:

I will have to look into this gradescope! Grading in ecampus is a huge pain in the rear.

How did your husband break his arm? More bike riding?

      • mi Says:

Yes, riding his bike on a rutted road with sticks. At this point I can confidently say that a broken arm is a much nicer problem to deal with than a broken neck. And, because this arm will keep him off the bike for a few months, I don’t have to worry about *more* bike accidents in the near future, so yay (?).

I’m trying to finish and submit a bunch of papers (I have grant renewal next year), and having a couple of abstract and a grant progress presentation due yesterday. Busy, but not very inspired to work, so it’s a struggle. Middle Boy’s birthday was yesterday (13!) so that was pleasant and diverting. It wasn’t much; I cooked him his fave meal plus procured an ice cream cake, and a lot of his friends congratulated him, so he was happy. I even got extra hugs! :-)

  8. Revanche @ A Gai Shan Life Says:

I’m just trying to knock out all my work and emails (and more emails), work on new staff training, and do some household money management and blogging, in a 6 hour block of time, each day this week.

I don’t know why I always try to fit it ALL into a Monday, though.

  9. CG Says:

I’m finishing a paper. Uncharacteristically, I’ve left the lit review for last (read a bunch of the stuff last summer but didn’t write it up) and it feels like an annoying bump in the road.
