I had forgotten that particular comic from SP but boy was it spot on. I’d just sent him a thank you contribution on Paypal because he’s a favorite cartoonist we used to see regularly at Comic Con. Support artists :)

This comic crossed my path again today and I laughed with great bitterness:

The real purpose of meditation and other wellness activities, when promoted by your employer, is to enable you to tolerate increasingly inhospitable work conditions and colleagues. In fact you ARE supposed to learn to accept that extreme mental and physical discomfort is normal, and that outwardly expressed manifestations of stress are unacceptable. When implemented in the workplace, the goal is to make things easier for the people causing the stress, not to help the individual. Learned helplessness is the goal, not transcendent happiness.

  4. SP Says:

That meditation article was fascinating and surprising. Thanks for sharing. I don’t meditate, but it is clear I had a misconception of what mediation is, or at least its origins. I never considered it could possibly be dangerous.

I’ve seen a couple people online with OCD tendencies say it is really unpleasant for them (I think John Green is one of them) so I was definitely not buying into the idea that it’s a panacea. My husband likes it when he’s too anxious to sleep (he listens to an app) but I’m more into CBT style visualization.
