TERFs suck

One of my colleagues is a TERF and she’s been writing anti-trans op-eds for a religious journal and the school has been promoting them on our webpage.

The students complained. I complained.

We were told that the school would continue to promote her hateful op-eds and they had reviewed them and decided they weren’t dangerous, despite comparing trans people to sharks and repeating every rumor and lie JK Rowling has ever told.

I don’t know what to do. So I donate another $25 to get books about trans kids and teens into the hands of kids in red and purple states.

I want to leave this place so badly.

Aw… Ugh… This inexplicable hate for trans people and trans kids makes me so sad. It never made sense before but now as a parent and teacher I’m scared all the time. Thankfully, my institution is (publicaly at least) welcoming. Thank you for speaking up and contributing $$.

I have to admit, I am little confused about all these acronyms these days (getting on a bit) but I am a great believer in live and let live. Why some people become so bellicose about something that cannot affect or harm them, I just don’t know. Perhaps they could better direct their attention to all the terrible things that are happening in the world right now and the things do have an impact on all of us one way or the other (war, rape, murder, disease, natural disasters – the list is long). I just hope for a more peaceful and tolerant world. Some hope!!!

Trans exclusionary radical feminist, aka people who think they’re feminists but are actually hateful bigots.

I suspect the hate is the point. These are bullies who want to pretend they’re not bullies by going after the truly marginalized.

Thank you for the link. I’m depressed and sickened by these people — many of them claiming to be Christians — who are attacking my son for political reasons, or no reasons at all, except that it makes them feel good to hate someone. As the kid says, “Love having my existence made into a talking point.”

I cancelled my subscription to the NYTimes, which I’ve been reading since before they required subscriptions.

It’s so awful. And people who claim to care about racial injustice are totally fine with both sidesing trans people’s right to not be labeled as villains, or even to just exist. There aren’t actually two sides to this! Just people asking for normal rights on the one side and super villains and the admin magnifying their voices on the other.

And we have HAD trans students and trans staff, it’s not like this is some abstract concept. Though maybe they didn’t feel comfortable enough to come out to these evil banal people. That said, these articles and their publicity started happening after our trans staff member graduated and moved on. So that might be related.

UGH. They all suck. It’s ridiculous that they’re allowed to spread their hate like that despite complaints.

I work at the University of Toronto, Jordan Peterson’s former institution (before he very publicly retired and tried to pretend he was forced out). It was really appalling to see how the university promoted his efforts when he first started speaking about anti-trans/misogynistic issues. It appeared that the university took an ‘all attention is good attention’ approach, inviting him to be part of an annual, well-advertised public debate and generally promoting his media appearances. Administrators never called him out for incorrectly saying that he was being forced to use preferred pronouns or he would be fired (there isn’t such a policy) nor did the university public ally support the trans students and others he was railing against. Instead they happily let him use his position and university’s PR team to raise his profile.

If the amount still needed gets lower it will start showing up in more donors choose searches so more people will see it.
